It’s been a busy few weeks for our Trampoline and Tumbling coaches.

First of all, we are delighted to welcome a new face onto our coaching team. Nate has been a member of our Competitive Program for a number of years and was awarded the Kara Miller Award for Encouragement in Trampoline in 2018. We are very grateful for all the effort Nate has put into our club over the last few years and hope he enjoys his new role as a junior coach.

We are also pleased to announce that four of our senior coaches have now completed their new accreditations as mentioned in a previous update. On the 30th of August, Rebecca and Emily attended PCYC Hornsby to attain their Intermediate Gymnastics For All coaching accreditation and yesterday Keelie and Sarah attended Shire Gymnastics in Kirrawee to attain their Intermediate KinderGym coaching accreditation.

KinderGym is a program that is specifically designed to assist children aged 0-5 develop fundamental life skills such as balance, co-ordination and rhythm in a safe, fun and engaging environment. With two of our coaches newly accredited, we are looking into the possibility of introducing a KinderGym program to replace our former Junior Jumpers class. If you would be interested in attending KinderGym at Miranda RSL Youth Club, please get in touch.

We would like to thank each and everyone of our coaches who put countless hours into professional development, accreditations and certifications so that we can provide the best possible programs for our members.

Have a safe and happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you back at the Youth Club on the 12th of October for the start of Term 4!

In response to the greatly reduced levels of community transmission in NSW, the 10km participation boundary for gymnastics clubs in Greater Sydney will be lifted as of Saturday the 26th of September. You can read the latest Office of Sport statement here.

Please note that our COVID Safe measures as detailed in our Return to Training Plan remain in place.

Update as of 24th of September 2020: The 10km participation will be lifted on the 26th of September. Please see the most recent news post for more information.

In response to the latest NSW Health Advice for Sport and Recreation, Gymnastics NSW will be implementing a new 10km participation boundary for club members. This means that Trampoline and Tumbling athletes must now live within 10km of the Youth Club in order to continue to participate in our program. This change will come into effect from the 28th of August 2020. Please note this restriction does not apply to school classes or students in our Karate Program.

If you live outside the boundary and do not have another Gymnastics NSW club with a Trampoline and Tumbling program in your area, you will still be eligible to attend our club under the specialised training rule. As we are the only Trampoline and Tumbling program in the South East region, none of our members will be effected at this stage. This may change if the NSW situation worsens.

If you have any questions or are unsure about your eligibility, please contact Trampoline Head Coach Robert Bull on (02) 9522 0484.

When the Youth Club shutdown in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we were unsure when we would be able to return. While our doors may have been closed, there was plenty going on behind the scenes to make sure that we would be ready to reopen when the NSW situation stabilised and restrictions eased.

During our closure, all coaches were required to complete the Department of Health Covid-19 Infection Control Training. Our Trampoline and Tumbling coaches were also engaged in a number of professional development activities including weekly online seminars on topics such as strength and conditioning, injury prevention techniques and behaviour management. Additionally, our four Beginner coaches begun their Intermediate Trampoline Coaching Accreditation while our Intermediate and Advanced Coaches begun accreditations in new disciplines including Tumbling, KinderGym and Gymnastics for All.

We also took the opportunity to undertake a number of maintenance tasks in and around the Youth Club including servicing our heaters and remounting the wall matting in the Trampoline Hall. COVID safety equipment such as perspex shields and a cover for the bubbler were also installed to protect the health of our members and staff. Finally, a deep clean of the Karate Room and Trampoline Hall took place in the week prior to reopening to ensure that the Club was safe and ready for our members to return.

Our COVID-19 Safety Plan was put together by Chief Instructor Louise Brown and Coach Emily. This information was communicated to our coaches through a COVID-19 Staff Handbook and to our members via our Return to Training Plan. In the week prior to reopening, all Youth Club coaches attended a Safety Induction to ensure they fully understood the new COVIDSafe policies.

It has now been a whole two weeks since we reopened and the Youth Club has quickly settled into the new normal. As always with this pandemic, it is an ever evolving situation and things may change quickly. Any changes to restrictions or Youth Club policies will be quickly communicated to our members via email and using our social media accounts. We are very grateful for your continued support throughout this trying time and we can assure you that our commitment to providing safe, fun and inclusive activities for young people remains unchanged.

All the best,

The Miranda RSL Youth Club Coaching Team.
